Bruno Valverde

RETROSPECTIVE


Since my debut in 1995, my work has never ceased to evolve, to the rhythm of my inner questionings and emotions.
My first canvases, created in 1994, were deeply figurative. They reflected a need to master form, to represent the visible world in order to tame its complexity. It was a period of learning and introspection, when every face and landscape became a mirror of my own emotions.

From 2011 onwards, a new stage naturally imposed itself: abstraction.
It was in this absolute freedom that I found my true language.
My canvases then became fields of energy, where matter, gesture and color confront and respond to each other.
Influenced by Pollock, Hartung and Zao Wou-Ki, I now paint as one breathes - in an instinctive dialogue between matter, light and movement.
Each work is a trace, a moment suspended between control and letting go, between the visible and the invisible.

Paquebot Le LYDIA - Le Barcarès

"It was aboard the legendary cruise liner Le Lydia, anchored on the beach at Le Barcarès, that I had the honor of staging my very first painting exhibition. Built in 1931, this cruise ship was decommissioned and sunk in 1967 to become an emblematic leisure venue, housing a restaurant, casino and nightclub. In this unique setting, steeped in history and symbolism, I shared my first artistic experience with Catalan painter Jacques Claramunt. It was a seminal adventure, imbued with emotion, that marked the beginning of my long journey dedicated to painting."
